What should we target to treat depression? From receptors to precise circuits

Abstract:

Dr. Hermany Munguba join us to discuss the underlying circuit psychiatry of depression, and how we should approach treating it.

Bio:

Hermany completed his PhD with Prof. Jens Hjerling-Leffler in Cortical Interneuron Diversity at the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden. In his postdoctoral training, Hermany was co-mentored by Profs Conor Liston and Joshua Levitz at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City, where he made important contributions to our understanding of the basic mechanisms that underlie psychiatric disease pathophysiology and ketamine treatment.

His lab focuses on circuit psychiatry: I) delineating key circuit components for specific mood-related symptoms; and II) finding circuit-enriched receptors that can be targeted to modulate such symptoms.
